Question

View to margin (safety area)

Q:

Is it possible to view to MARGIN opposed to BLEED or PREVIEW and those under Screen Mode

Background:

I'm building a banner that has grommets and a reinforced edge. I'm using MARGIN as the safety area. Neither PREVIEW or MARGIN gives the definitive WYSIWYG view

Alternatively, should I make the document the SAFETY AREA?

I would approach this differently from Eugene. (I have a clinet for whome I do banners on occasion)

I add a slug for hems and such amd you can do the same for your safety area. Preview without the slug, export with.

Is this just to view it at full page without seeing 'rivet' area?

It's best to have all your elements on the 1 page with proper margin setup and bleed areas.

Technically bleed areas will be trimmed off - so you don't want any artwork (including backgrounds) to be trimmed away.

You can make another file the page size you want with 0 margins

Then save that.

In the banner file you can you use FIle>Place and place the indesign file on top of the banner.

You can then treat the linked file like any other, you can edit it and update it as usual.

It's just linking the InDesign file to the layout.
