I have a moving presentation with a lot of gifs. I need to export this file and put it on my website. What is the best way to export from indesign into a gif or mp4?

There is no direct export to .gif or .mp4.
A workaround is to play the animation in Indesign and use a screen recording utility to capture and save into a video format.

Just for clarity: I assume you were referring to animated gifs. Because there are ways to export InDesign files as GIF images with 3rd-party tools, but I guess that’s not what you need.

p.s. there’s also in5 with advanced HTML export capabilities; i don’t know if it allows exporting animated gifs the way you need:
