Correct answer Peter Kahrel

The script works fine in ID 2025. What problem do you see? Any error messages?

Here is the file structure for what we are trying to do.

C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe InDesign 2025\Scripts\Scripts Panel\Samples\JavaScript\

\kern.jsx

\kern_Helvetica Black.txt

# \kern_Helvetica Black.txt
===Black

Script “runs” successfully, but no kerning is actually done (pairs seen flashing by).

We just tried a different font and it worked OK in ID 2025. The font was the problem. Many thanks.

Hi @NYJack ,

I would contact Peter Kahrel per mail and ask for help. *

Have a sample recording of issues available. Also all details on used fonts, InDesign and operating system versions.

* Well, I can see now, that Peter's mail address is missing:

https://creativepro.com/files/kahrel/info.html

However, I also see that Peter's script was updated in April 2024, so it should also run without issues with InDesign 2025:

https://creativepro.com/files/kahrel/indesign/kern.html

To test this also install InDesign 2024 beside InDesign 2025 and run the script with InDesign 2024 to spot a difference.

Using an older version, itching for 2025. Wondering if OpenType fonts with same name (Helvetica Black) will contain same numerical pair values as Type One fonts did...

Good question. Haven't used that specific script but haven't encountered any OT issues with other scripts.

Most InDesign scripts work on any CC version. It's quite rare for a version to break a script. Have you tried it and got an error? If so what's the error and version and OS?
