What is this strange hidden character in InDesign

It is in the running header variable. I can't find where to control it or how to eliminate it other than deleting the running header variable.

This character denotes an empty running header. So the only way to get rid of it is to either have some content in the running header or deleting it

Thank you! That answered my question. The symbol indicates and empty text variable in the running header, so I created another master page without the empty Running Header variable.
