Question

When you import PDF comments, they're not aligned ? Here's why !

Hi there,

When Adobe introduces the ability to import PDF comments, I was so happy, since this feature would make my work so easy. And it did. for a few months...
I think it's stop working after the release of Indesign in november 2019.
The issue was that comments were displaced and not aligned in the Indd project doc that make the PDF.
Pics attached

I had too much work to take time to understand "why", until today.

Ok, I wanted to mean Adobe, not apple.

And I thought I could edit my post, or delete it, but I can't.

Ok, done.

Remember, never say you can't do something in InDesign, it's always just a question of finding the right workaround to get the job done. © David Blatner

As you can see here, I put comments in the same place on the two paragraphs on the PDF (Left).

Therefore, they're not perfectly aligned on the Indesign projet (Right).

One paragraph is good, the other is not ?

Why ?

Because one has a outline, and the other has not.

To be sure it's not a Windows 10 issue only, I tried on MacOS as well.
And results are the same :

  • Create a text with no stroke, duplicate it and add a stroke on the second text.
  • Export a pdf, insert comments in Acrobat, then import the pdf comments in Indesign.
  • The PDF comments will be perfectly aligned on the text with no stroke, but shifted on the text with stroke.
