Question

Which export pdf setting to use for a document which contains both colour and greyscale images

Hi, I'm relatively new to Indesign and am trying to create a press ready pdf file. My document contains a mix of greyscale and colour images, when I export to pdf/x-1 as you would with a normal colour file, the greyscale images look far lighter than they should, and far lighter than they actually display when opened in Photoshop. I have tried all sorts of options but am stumped, any help appreciated.

Hi @defaultghv0d0hyzwza , InDesign doesn’t have a grayscale space the way Photoshop does—with Overprint Preview turned on it displays grayscales as they should print on the document’s CMYK black plate. With Overprint on, the InDesign document’s CMYK profile handles the grayscale preview, while in Photoshop the assigned Gray profile (which could be different) handles the preview.

This thread covers how to assign Photoshop grayscales with Black Ink profiles in order to get a matching preview in InDesign. This assumes you are using the correct CMYK profile in InDesign for the final print destination.
