When I open InDesign there is a white box and when I x out of it, it shuts down the program. Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

Do you mean you are not even able to properly load InDesign? If so see if your subscription has expired. Sometimes InDesign pops a dialog asking to verify the account information, if the computer is not connected to the internet it causes issues. You can try logging out and then relogging into your Adobe account to see if that helps

Hi Jennifer,

Sorry to hear about your experience. I hope you issue is resolved. If any suggestion given earlier helped, then please mark the answer correct. You may share any other solution you tried which may help other users as well. If you still have issues, would you mind sharing version of OS and InDesign?
Have you tried resetting InDesign preferences? If not, please try doing that. Follow instructions on help article
 https://helpx.adobe.com/indesign/using/setting-preferences.html

**Please note that resetting preferences will remove all the custom settings and InDesign will launch with default settings. You can also take a backup of the folders in case you want to. Location is mentioned in the article. Let us kow how it goes.

Looking forward to your response.

Regards,

Ashutosh

Save as IDML, open that and work with the new file.
