White Screen in InDesign document

Hej all around,

when I open a document in InDesign, it always shows me a white screen. No images, no document lines. But the program seems to work normally. I can use the zoom and I see the surface from InDesign. I tried to install it from the ground, but nothing changed. I use the newest version with a MacBookPro 2015.

 

Does anybody have an idea? Thank you very much for you help.

    Does it happen if you turn off GPU Performance in Preferences?

      Hi Rob,

      OP André was showing two very strange screenshots two years ago.

       

      At first glance I thought something on the pasteboard was selected. But the values for width and height point to a smaller object on the page. And then I thought, well, somehow InDesign is showing the pasteboard itself selected, and that cannot be the case…

       

      And then it turned out the issue (reason) for all this was a Terminal command for the appearance of the Mac interface…

      Hej guys,

      I just solved the problem! It has been a MacOS issue: About 1 year ago I used the code "defaults write -g NSRequiresAquaSystemAppearance -bool Yes" in Terminal to get a white finder in Dark Mode. Then I switched it back to the normal dark mode with "defaults write -g NSRequiresAquaSystemAppearance -bool No", then my Indesign got these problems and it was getting useless. When I used the "hack" again and everything was allright. Now I updated to Catalina, but my dark mode is still "hacked". I know it is a special issue and it was kind of stupid to use the code, but nobody tought it would produce that kind of problems. Any ideas to fix it?

      Hi André: I don't see any new screen shots, but if this is a new problem it points to corrupt preferences/cache. The post I linked to earlier will walk you through the steps of rebuilding both.

      Has it always done this, André?  Or is this a new behavior?

      Hey BarbBinder, thank you! At first there was a white screen as well. Then I made a rectangle into the white document for testing. Then this happend (screenshots down below). I can see a document, but if I zoom in and out, nothing happens. The problem ist quite new and never happend before.

      Isn't that how a new InDesign document is supposed to look?

      You can toggle with nothing selected, between Normal and Preview mode by pressing "w"

      A screenshot might help us check what your screen looks like.

      In InDesign Preferences you can change the colour of the Interface.

      Hey Derek_Cross, I put the screenshot into my first post. You can see nothing from the document. No lines, even if I make a new document. Just the white screen inside of the window. Nothing changes, when I am changing the modes. It is totally confusing...

      Hi André: Does selecting View > Fit Spread in Window resolve the issue?
