Question

Why are Adobe AI writing features available in InDesign but not in InCopy?

Dear Adobe Product Team,
InCopy continues to be presented as Adobe's professional tool for authors, editors, journalists and content creators, while InDesign is primarily used for layout and production workflows. However, the recent AI-powered writing capabilities introduced in InDesign, including AI Assistant, Rewrite, Summarize, Change Tone, Expand Text and Condense Text, are not available to InCopy users.

This creates a significant contradiction in editorial workflows: the users who actually create and edit content are unable to access the AI tools specifically designed to support content creation, while those tools are available in the layout application.

Could Adobe please clarify its strategic direction?
1 Is there a plan to bring AI writing and editing capabilities to InCopy without requiring an InDesign license?
2 If not, should customers consider Share for Text Editing / InCopy on the web (beta) as the future platform for content authoring and editorial collaboration?
Many enterprise publishing environments rely on InCopy for authors and InDesign for designers. For this reason, an official statement on the future of AI-assisted authoring within the InCopy ecosystem would be greatly appreciated.

Several InCopy releases have been delivered without significant end-user functionality enhancements, while major AI innovations continue to be introduced exclusively in InDesign. Can Adobe confirm whether AI-assisted writing remains part of the InCopy roadmap?

Thank you.

    Hi Filippo,

My 2cents worth here, and I don’t speak for the product development folks:

Why not wait two weeks for the shipping versions to be released and make your assessment?

Beta features are not production features. Writers and editors already have plenty of access to AI powered editing assistance in non-Adobe tools like MS Word and LLMs in browsers. Usually, text features introduced in InDesign are also going to be in InCopy.

I am a fan of InCopy. But look out: Share for Text Editing (beta) is a great idea; however it does not work in Chromium browsers; nor does it have enough of a feature set. Don’t use it.

Why not post your thoughts over at InDesign Uservoice?
