Question

Why are my urls changing themselves to text anchors?

I've been putting together a monthly newsletter for the League of Women Voters of San Bernardino. Every single issue of them has URLs to register for events, find more information, etc. I've never had this problem in the past. I usually copy the url, select the text I want to link, right click, choose interactive, choose hyperlink, make sure it's sent to URL and has the correct text in the box, paste in the url, click "OK." I do that now, and when I export to Adobe (with hyperlinks selected as being live) the hyperlinks in the resultant file are dead. When I go back and check, they've all changed themselves to text anchors. I've done this repeatedly, I've closed and opened the document, I've closed and opened the program, I've turned off and on my computer. Problem persists. Any ideas?

Sincerely,

Jill

So, a kind person on campus helped me. We managed to work with the Windows/Interactive/Hyperlinks panel. It took forever to populate, and it never just listed all the links. But when we went to the Hyperlink Destinations click down it did show them and it was possible to modify hyperlinks from there. We never got the click on it, open the link to show us the link - it always reset to text anchor. I think I've gotten a bug in the program and will end up asking my campus to reinstall. (Next month, I will find out if that works.) Many thanks to the people who tried to help.

    Hi Jill,

can you tell the exact version of your InDesign CS6?
To get it hold the cmd key and go to "About InDesign".

Maybe you could update to a bug fix version of CS6?
The latest should be version 8.1.0.

    Regards,
    Uwe

    Hi Jill,

what is your exact version of InDesign?

What is the version of your operating system?

Can you show a screenshot of the Hyperlinks panel before and after coming back after doing Publish Online?

Or do the links already go wrong before doing Publish Online? Just by perhaps closing the panel or the document or by restarting InDesign and reopening the document? Sorry, I'm a little confused when exactly the issues happen…

This all sounds a bit creepy to me…

    Regards,
    Uwe

    Indesign: Adobe Indesign CS6

Both before and after adding the URLs:

    Here is what is happening:

I check the web address I want to send people to by pasting it into a web browser, it works. I highlight the text I want to use for the link. I click on my mouse to open the menu and I select Interactive, then New Hyperlink Destination. The dialog box opens with "text anchor" selected, even though I have changed it to URL and pasted the URL in many, many times. I change it to URL and paste the destination URL in. It looks like this:

I click OK and then I go back in, highlight the text, click to open the menu, choose Interactive, choose New Hyperlink Destination, and it looks like this:

For one of the links there is an added complication. I go through the process as described above.

So I switch the Text Anchor to a URL and paste in the URL, click OK, and I get this:

I'm not sure what that means.
