Question

Why are white assets going into libraries when they are transparent background?

Its tiresome.

This is a white vector logo, no background. Sure it comes out of libraries ok with a transparent background but in the mean time all we get is a white rectangle. How do we fix this?

Hi @garethirwin1234, Another option might be to add a non printing background in the Illustrator file and turn it on or off has needed using InDesign’s Object Layer Options

Thanks for the ideas guys, what would be better though is if Adobe just fix their libraries panel.

This happens because the white vector logo has no visible contrast against InDesign's default white background, making it appear as a white rectangle. To fix this, either change the background color of the page or pasteboard temporarily (for visibility), or place the logo on a darker-colored object (like a temporary box) while working. Rest assured, the logo's background is still transparent—it’s just not visible until placed on a contrasting surface.

  1. What. file type was the logo when you placed it in the original document? Use PDF/X4 or AI, never EPS or PnG.
  2. When you placed the file in the original document, show import options and deactivate the white background. Then make a library object.

I just got annoyed about this error again and wanted to see if it had been fixed in the meantime. All these workarounds are a poor reflection on Adobe.
You've known about this error for years. I even received a discount because of it once. I think that was three years ago! When will you finally get this annoying error under control? It's incredibly disappointing.
