Question

Why are windows going off the edge of the screen?

I never had this issue with CS3: why are windows able to be extended out from beyond the edge of the screen?

This is really annoying and frustrating behaviour that makes zero sense.

For example Google Chrome and iTunes will always 'lock' at the bottom and not let you extend beyond the edge.

Any help would be much appreciated, thank you.

Do you have the application frame enabled?

Thanks for the reply.
No, I always use floating windows since this is what I'm used to since the last 20 years. I cannot stand the application frame...

PS: green button does nothing, the window doesn't go full screen

Photoshop: I can't resize beyond the bottom, but I can pull it down. But the green circle maximizes the screen and recenters it. I get the identical behavior in InDesign, Illustrator, Word, Chrome, Music, etc.

I never use the green button and prefer to size my windows manually.

I understand. Feel free to continue to resize your windows manually, just keep an eye on the bottom row. I do not believe there is a setting to control this within macOS Monterey. I know that there is not a command to control this through InDesign.

I'm not sure I can do anything else for you, other than offer empathy that after making such a huge technological leap, overnight things suddenly different than they were in 2007 when CS3 was released. I wish you the best, @TypoMan23. Perhaps someone else can be of futher assistance.

Hi @TypoMan23:

I don't think that is an option in any modern application (again, I can drag both Chrome and Music off the screen). Many of us use multiple displays and drag windows from one to the other intentionally. I've look in Apple > Preferences and don't see any controls for this.

I certainly used CS3 but not since CS4 was released in 2008, and not on a modern computer. I have no memory of being constrained by display boundaries, but not saying it didn't happen. I'm guessing using multiple displays was much rarer 14-15 years ago.

That's interesting. Can you show me how far you can drag Chrome and iTunes off the bottom edge please?

I do not use multiple displays.

Here you can see PS, ID, and AI all being cut off at the bottom edge:

What happens when you click the green Maximize button? Does it fix it?

Hi @TypoMan23

When I inadvertantly move any application, I just click the green circle to maximize and recenter. I'm not sure what you mean about not being allowed to pull Chrome or Music off the visible display, though. I can pull both down so the the bottom is missing.

Is it OS specific? I'm on Monterey 12.6.

Thanks for the reply.

I am on Monterey 12.6. I never experienced such behaviour in OSX with CS3, before upgrading.

I am re-sizing the windows from the bottom right corner, when I drag either PS, ID or AI it goes over the bottom edge of the screen.

All my other non-Adobe apps all "lock" to the bottom of the screen, so that the window does not get cut off.

How can I prevent this from happening in my Adobe apps?

Looks like MacOS. Could also be an issue in the Mac and its drivers. In earlier days with CRT monitors there was something called overscan. Could be the real screen size is bigger than the one of the monitor. Just an idea.

Thanks for the reply.

But why does it only happen in CC though, and didn't in CS3 or any other applications?

What exactly do you mean by this: the real screen size is bigger than the one of the monitor ?
