Why CS6 can't open file when folder is text 2 bytes

If i Create a file test.indd by CS6 and put in folder [0108_sample_3フォルダー]

Dim strFile="D:\2019\0108_sample_3フォルダー\0108_sample_3.indd"

Dim oDoc= oIndesign.Open(strFile, False)

 

It occur error:

The file may not exist, you may not have access to the file, or the file may be in use by another application.

 

i try open direct by Indesign App CS6, it can't too.

 

If i change folder to English : folder [0108_sample], it working ok.

Why CS6 can't open file when folder is text 2 bytes

 

I using Window.

With folder [0108_sample_3フォルダー] open file by CC 2017, it is ok.

Hm. Then how exactly did you or your client transfer this folder from the Mac to your Windows system?

Hi daitranthanhoa ,

how did you create that folder in your system? By scripting?

What's your exact version of InDesign CS6? I can remember that there were issues with file names with the first version of InDesign CS6 8.0.0. My exact version is 8.1.0.420.

Hi Laubender, 

This is Data of my user, They create from Macintosh OS.

About [0108_sample_3フォルダー] folder, i think this is typing method MFD in Japanese.

My Version: InDesign CS6 8.0.0,

Have you got link upgrade to CS6 8.1?

Hi,

maybe the OS version? Are you on Windows 7 perhaps?

In my German Windows 10 I can create* a folder named: 0108_sample_3フォルダー.

Also save and open a document with my German InDesign CS6 from this folder:

 

 

* Well, maybe not exactly that name?

If I try to copy/paste the name of your problem folder from your post to a new folder in my system, Windows 10 is doing a message saying:

 

Renaming:

This file or folder does not exist.

 

but then after hitting OK I can go on, the folder is done and I can save an InDesign CS6 file to it.

There have been many fixes and improvements since CS6. It is not surprising if some things don't work with old software, but we can be happy they are fixed.  (This is a common software issue, epecially when file names include characters that are not available in the system default language. Special programming techniques were needed to make this work).

This was never a problem in Mac, where of course file names are all UTF-8, not single/double byte. If CS6 was not written to handle Unicode file names, you (or your end users) must upgrade. Adobe will not be unhappy.
