Why did my ID pages change in size?

I am about to update a large book I designed for a client about 10 years ago. When I opened the files, I noticed that all of the elements are in place, but the page sizes have all changed to larger dimensions. When I put them back to what they were for the first edition, it messes up the design. Any thoughts as to why this happened and how to fix it?

No, but to be honest, the size changes were significantly more than the bleed, with almost an inch larger now. I'm also curious how all the elements (text and images) fit perfectly in the larger size, but I will need to do major surgery if I attempt to make them fit into the previous smaller size.

Turn off the  layout adjustment, then resize the paper size,  maybe in several steps.
