Why is "01." so far apart from the text than the other lines? Can't figure this spacing stuff out.

OP uses "^t" as a separator.

The extra space is after "4." - selection extends there - in all other lines, selection starts right before first character.

The OP said 01. I assume they meant the slight difference after the number and before the text. Using tabs with right align text can be problematic, so I agree--use a Em space, En space, or space instead.
