Why do my InDesign files save as Photoshop files, even when it says it is saving as Indd?

OK, let me try. I have the CC subscription and the it says Adobe InDesign CC 2018.  I have created them in InDesign, and save them as such, but the icon that shows up on the desktop has the PS, or Photoshop icon with the file not the ID icon. Now when I click on the file, it tries to open Photoshop and I get an error message saying it cannot open it because it is not the right kind of file. When I open InDesign, and open recent documents, the file opens perfectly and is editable, saveable, etc.

I have used InDesign and Photoshop on my personal Mac for years, but I am running this on my work computer, which is a Lenovo ThinkPad running Windows 10 Home.

You have a file association issue which has nothing to do with InDesign. Right click one of the InDesign files and choose open with. Choose InDesign from the list or browse to it and make sure to check the always use this app selection.

Remember, never say you can't do something in InDesign, it's always just a question of finding the right workaround to get the job done. © David Blatner

You’ll need to do way better than that as far as a description.

What version of ID? What operating system? What makes you think they’re being saved as Photoshop files?
