Hi,

I have a layout, the reference section has 168 references. I made a style of them. i used the cross-reference panel to insert my references in my document.

Editorial sent edits to the references section, they wanted to delete 6, re-arrange 4  and add 6 more.

what is the order in which i should tackle things? i had so many red flags once i deleted and re-arranged that i did not know how to deal with it since i did not know what do to with the red flag i would get from within the layout.

How do you deal with this much re-work of references? what is your workflow?

    Hi Jonathan:

I would just work through the document chronologically.

    1. When you delete a reference, remember to delete the x-ref from the panel (no red flags because they are gone).
    2. When you rearrange the references, rememberer to update the x-refs, which removed the red flags once they are up to date. (Since you are new to this, you might update after each edit. It sounds like you did a bunch and now are confused? Start slowly.)
    3. Adding the new references just means remembering to x-ref them.

i did get confused and there was so many red flags since all of their edits are in the 70's section and the list goes up to 160'so it was over half of things that went red and yellow

    Hi Jonathan,

did you cut and paste texts with x-refs targets?

Don't do that, instead move texts around by dragging it to a different insertion point.

To be able to do that use a Story Editor Window where you can select text and drag it to a different place.

Also to a different text insertion point in the Layout Window!

Or enable this feature in Layout View with:

Preferences > Type > Drag and Drop Text Editing

[ x ] Enable In Layout View ( not enabled by default )

[ x ] Enable in Story Editor ( this is option is set by default )

    Regards,
