Working on 1600pg history book with large text and photos in Indic language (malayalam)

So i started working on a history book in malayalam language. It consists of 3 volumes, the first book has 10 chapters and i've splitted into 10 files and used the book feature in indesign. Each chapter is about is about 40-50 pages with 2 column, justified text, and text wrap.

My problem is it lags so much even in fast preview. It is frustrating to work and takes up alot of time. And i've attached my justification settings as well for reference. However, i've been finicking with justification setttings, if i don't use glyph scaling at all, it speeds up by alot.

My question, how will i use this feature without affecting my performance, the glyph scaling plays a good chunk of my workflow. And i can't just turn it off and on everytime.

I've attached a page for example with glyph scaling and without glyph scaling. The main problem is spacing issue. Granted the glyph scaling doesn't solve everything.

Justification settings are applied to a paragraph style and these are my settings. Granted it doesn't solve everything. But it gives a head start to work on. Thank you for looking into it.

@EddyWills

How long have you been working on this file?

How ofter are you doing Save As with a new name?

If "never" - can you try right now?

I just saved it into new file for the first time. And it still persists. For more information, i'm using MLU-Revathi as font for body paragraph

@EddyWills

And why do you need glyph scaling?

Are you applying it as a local override - or as a CharStyle?

And there is nothing attached to your post.

As @Dave Creamer of IDEAS suggested - what is your platform, OS and InDesign versions and hardware - CPU, RAM, disk space - HDD or SSD, are you working locally or remotely - where is saved your file?

I'm using MSI laptop
i7 - 9750H | 16 GB Ram | 512 GB SSD and all my files are saved locally.
Indesign 2025 and updated to latest version.

@EddyWills

Just in case - can you confirm "latest version" of InDesign?

16 GB Ram

I'm not sure if that's the reason for your particular issue, but 16 GB can be insufficient for efficient InDesign operation. If you can upgrade your laptop's memory then I'd recommend at least 32 GB. Again, I don't know if it will make a difference for the issue you describe.
