Wrong language in the sublayer for "Define variable..".

Hello.

In the sublayer of the program which I use in English, appears in German. Regardless of the right user region all programs were in English including Windows11. It concerns the following path: Type/Text variables/Insert variable/…

The translations for other functions appear in the right language.

I use the edition 20.5.3.x64.

Is it a translation bug?

Can you post a screenshot of the issue? Also, do you experience the same problem in InDesign 2026?

    Hi @gcp,

Thanks for reaching out. That's certainly a strange case.

Agreeing with the expert's suggestion, could you please share a screenshot of the affected menu and also check whether the same behavior occurs in the latest version of InDesign (21.4.1)?

Additionally, could you please create a brand-new InDesign document in 20.5.3 and navigate to Type > Text Variables > Insert Variable? If the menu appears in English in the new document but German in the original one, it would suggest the issue is document-specific rather than a localization issue with the application itself.

Also, please go to Type > Text Variables > Define and check whether the listed variables are the default ones or if they have inherited German names.

    Looking forward to your update.
