Question

Wrong paragraph style when text is placed

The paragraph style applied to an empty text box is correct: it is general text. When the text is flowed in, the style becomes an incorrect style: it becomes poetry. I checked the empty box before flowing; the style was correct. Is there something in the text flow preferences I'm not aware of and did not create? Why would this happen? MAC, Ventura, ID CC 2024.

Has the object style a specific paragraph styles defined?

Or do you have a character style selected which will change the paragraph properties?

No, it's not the character style problem. The paragraph style is set but another style substitutes for the set style.

Is a Paragraph style defined in the Object Style. If so, what style is it?

I've found that there is another place to look. The text frame is selected and the correct font, style etc. are selected:

But if I look at my Paragraph Style list, a paragraph style with different attributes is selected. The Paragraph style wins! Make sure you don't have an active paragraph style when placing text.

The active style is the correct one until the text is flowed in; then the paragraph style changes.

That's what happened in my illustration above. If there is no active paragraph style, the settings in the Control panel for the text are applied as intended.
