"You cannot reverse this change with the Edit > Undo command" Dialog Box launching randomly.

Over the last week or so everytime I launch InDesign I am met with the attached dialog box.

"You cannot reverse this change with the Edit > Undo command"

It is persistent and getting worse. It will now launch randomly whilst I'm working. It is making InDesign almost unusable and destroying my worklfow and concentration. How on earth can I stop this occuring? I've tried Resetting Warning Dialogs to no avail. I've seen this posted elsewhere without any solution. Can someone at Adobe please respond – its driving me nuts.

Correct answer DrMat

I had exactly this problem, I eventually unistalled InDesign including my preferences and then reinstalled, it seems to be working now - note unistalling and keeping preserences did not fix the problem

This is indeed a temporary solution to the problem. In my case, the bug comes back after 2-3 months and it seems like it’s still not fixed. As I’m writing this, I’m reinstalling InDesign for the third time this year :(

Hi @kamilr90903104,

I'm sorry to hear that you're still running into this issue, especially if it keeps returning every few months and requires a reinstall to temporarily resolve.

To help us investigate further, could you please confirm your exact InDesign version and OS version? Also, when does the dialog typically appear: on launch, when opening a document, or while editing? Does it occur in a brand-new blank document as well?

If possible, please share a short screen recording demonstrating the issue in action so I can better understand the behavior and test it further.

Additionally, do you have any third-party plug-ins, startup scripts, or extensions installed? Please try reproducing the issue in Safe Mode and let us know if it still occurs:

Windows:

macOS:

It would also be helpful to test in a new local administrator account to rule out any user-profile-specific issues:

Windows:
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/manage-user-accounts-in-windows-104dc19f-6430-4b49-6a2b-e4dbd1dcdf32

Finally, are you working with local InDesign documents, Cloud Documents (.inddc), or both?

Looking forward to your update.

Best,
Abhishek

Hi leed,

I have seen that message when using a .inddc cloud document, but you don't mention what you are doing when this happens. If it really is popping up randomly, you might try resetting preferences (not resetting warning dialogs). There are four ways to approach resetting preferences, and this compendium of resetting/troubleshooting should guide you.
