Lightroom Classic Persistent Crashes & Launch Failures

1. System & Version Context

Application: Adobe Lightroom Classic (LRC)

Primary Trigger Point: Issues began/intensified following the v15.4 update

Primary Symptoms: * Frequent crashes and heap corruption during resource-heavy tasks (specifically AI-assisted culling).

Intermittent total launch failures (LRC failing to open entirely).

Suspected underlying causes: Memory leaks, database bottlenecks, and profile-specific local application state corruption.

2. Completed Troubleshooting Steps

To save time, please note that the following extensive diagnostic steps have already been performed:

Catalog & File Management

Storage Environment: Migrated the primary catalog to a high-speed internal SSD to eliminate external drive bottlenecks.

Lock File Maintenance: Manually located and deleted temporary .lock files when the application failed to initialize.

Cache Clearing: Completely cleared legacy cache folders.

Catalog Isolation: Tested launching LRC with a completely new, blank catalog to isolate database-specific corruption.

Performance & Hardware Configuration

GPU Settings: Disabled hardware acceleration within preferences to rule out display driver conflicts.

Environment Isolation: Created and tested LRC within a brand-new Windows user profile. The application ran stable there, confirming that system hardware, RAM, and global drivers are functioning correctly.

Application & Profile Reset

Clean Reinstall: Performed a full, clean uninstallation and reinstallation of Lightroom Classic.

Preference Reset: Cleared and reset corrupted user preference files within the primary Windows user profile.

Forced Execution: Utilized command-line forced launches to bypass standard startup hanging.

3. Current State & Request

While the hardware and a clean Windows profile show no faults, the application continues to experience memory exhaustion and stability issues within the main working profile during AI culling.

Requested Assistance:

Deep analysis of recent crash logs to identify why v15.4 is triggering heap corruption during AI processes.

Guidance on fully repairing the primary Windows user profile registry/app data pathing for Adobe without requiring a total OS migration.

One thing you did not mention is whether or not you have the latest GPU driver. Please double check rather than simply saying “Yes, I have the latest driver”. If you have an NVidia video card, then you want to be sure it is a Studio driver and not a Game Ready driver.

You should also go to Help->System Info in LrC and paste the results into your reply.

PS: I see you have tried to create paragraphs above (and this is a very good thing to do, and thank you for trying), however this stoopid new forum software fools you into thinking you have created a paragraph (when you press ENTER in the editor it shows you a blank space above your new line) but you really have not created a paragraph in the message that shows up in the forum. You need to press ENTER twice in the editor to create a paragraph that shows up in the message as shown in the forum.
