Question

2 Nikon Z8s - how to name files differently in LRC

I bought two Z8s, 4 months apart.  I've uploaded about 4000 photos from body #1 into LRC.  It is my understanding, if I have the exact same file naming system in my two Z8s, that a photo from the 2nd body could overwrite the original file from my first body, which I do not want.  On my 2nd body, I renamed the file from _DSC. to _Z82 and it is saved.  However, when uplading to LRC it is using the DSC file name, not Z82.

Is there a LRC link or does someone here know how to standardize uploading from my 2nd body with its own file naming convention?  I'm afraid I won't remember to enter a new file name each time I upload.  Thank you.

I use a mac with the 2nd to most recent update.

This potential overwriting if you copy photos to your hard disk using your Mac Finder (or Windows Explorer) only happens if you put the files in the same folder. Don't put them in the same folder, and you should be fine. And then the renaming problems you seem to be having go away as well, as renaming is not needed and is optional.

Also, if you import (not "upload") the files from camera card to computer hard disk using LrC (and not your operating system), if there is already a file by that name in a folder, LrC adds (2) to the name so the file will have a different physical name so nothing gets overwritten. Again, no problems.

Lastly, on my Nikon Z6ii, you can set the camera to automatically rename the files (replacing the DSC part with whatever 3 letters you want), and I have done that and they show up when I import them into Lightroom Classic with this renaming intact.
