Accidentally created virtual copies into collection and library

My problem with Lightroom is as follows: when I started to create a book in LR I must have accidentally created virtual copies of ore than 2400 photographs. In the collection I marked and deleted them, but in the library they're still there. Most of the virtual copies are actually in the book so that deleting them is complicated. Is there a way of indicating in the library module which photographs are in the book?

Find them in the (parent?) folder and delete them from there.

To find the virtual copies in the parent folder is easy.  In the Attribute section of the Library Filter bar on the top right of the bar there are three little squares.  Click on the first square and LR will show you only the mater copies in the folder.  Click on the second square and LR will show you only virtual copies in the folder.  The third square is for videos.  If you want to delete the virtual copies, choose the virtual copies square, select them all (Command A) and delete them.

The problem is that if the deleted ones are in the book I can redo the book. In the parent folder I do not see which one I used.
