I have been using LR since the beginning, but have never had this problem.
imported images into LRC. Now I cannot move them from Recent Import into a Collection.

There are a number of special purpose smart collections shown in the Catalog panel, such as All Photographs and Previous Import.

As for normal smart collections, images cannot be dragged into or out of these groupings as a positive action. It is these images' attributes which dynamically qualify, or do not qualify, them to appear there.

It's true that images can be dragged into standard collections FROM a folder view or from another collection. Some people have had difficulty doing this though: the detail being, that image(s) must be picked up for dragging by the central (photo) part of the thumbnail - not by the border area of the thumbnail.

Please remember that you cannot move images from one collection to another collection. Dragging and dropping them onto the new collection will add them to that collection too, not move them. That is how it's always been.

As there are many ways to add a photo to a collection, please describe in more details which one doesn't work on your end.

Also, please let us know the exact version of LrC you use, as well as the version of the OS.
