Adding watermarks

I am fairly new to Lightroom Classic CC.

I have figured out how to create a watermark that shows up on photos with white lettering.  This was done by creating in MS Paint.  This is great for darker photos that will allow it to be seen.  But with photos where they are bright, the white watermark does not show up.  I tried creating a new watermark with grey or black lettering in MS Paint and save as a *.PNG file.  When I add that to the photo, it has the white background and when I change the opacity, it still shows.  I do not care for this at all.  So, then I tried creating a new watermark via Text.  Now, I get it the color and opacity and position that I want it, but when I go to export the photo with the watermark on it, it does not put on the photo.  I have added the watermark to different positions on the photo and it still does not show up.  I am not sure what I am doing wrong.  Please help.

Two points in your question-

1)  "White background"-

I do not believe that MS-Paint is capable of Transparency (I have never used) even though you save as .PNG

You will need to use an editor that can save 'with transparency' to avoid the white background.

You have Classic-CC so you have access to Photoshop 2018,  This can make any graphic you need. My first screen-clip shows the pattern that indicates where the watermark image is transparent.

You will still need to design various text/graphic colors to be visible on dark/light images.

2) "it still does not show up"

How are you Exporting your image? Can you screen-clip your export dialog?

Do not Export "As Original"- this will NOT add a watermark. Select a JPG or TIFF, and check the Watermark box and choose your saved watermark preset.

Thank you very much.  With your help, I was able to create one in Photoshop and then add it as a watermark in Lightroom.  Took me a little bit, because I was playing around with different settings.
