Question

Adjustments automatically made

I import photos from my SD card into LR.

Card ejects after import is done.

I'm Library mode and when I click on the photo to preview it, edits get made to it automatically.

I've imported photos in this manner for over a decade.

Why after I import them and click on them to simply preview them in Library mode, do adjietmenrs get made automatically?

If you want imported photos to appear in Library with the embedded preview generated by the camera, in the Import dialog box you can set File Handling / Build Previews to Embedded & Sidecar. Maybe you had it set that way before and it somehow got changed recently.

However, as soon as you switch to the Develop module, the appearance of the image will always change because a new preview will be rendered by the current default Develop preset. That’s because the raw processing engine in Lightroom Classic doesn’t (and can’t) exactly match the proprietary internal processing engine of any specific camera. Those who want the closest match to camera processing set up a default preset using a Camera Matching profile, which is a best attempt by Adobe but still not exact.

Lightroom Classic builds its own previews, that will be different than the embedded previews that the camera included, that is one reason. The other (possible) reason is that you have inadvertently changed the camera default, and/or are applying a develop preset on import.
