AI Denoise artifacts with GoPro MISSION 1 PRO 50 MP GPR RAW files

Is Adobe AI Denoise fully optimized for GoPro MISSION 1 PRO 50 MP GPR RAW files?

I've been comparing 12 MP and 50 MP RAW files from the new GoPro MISSION 1 PRO.

Without AI Denoise, the 50 MP RAW files look very good and preserve more detail and color than the 12 MP files.

However, after applying Enhance > Denoise, the 50 MP files frequently develop visible artifacts, while the 12 MP RAW files remain clean and natural.

Other users have reported similar behavior.

Is this a known limitation of the current AI Denoise model with these new GPR files, or could this indicate a bug?

Are there any plans to optimize AI Denoise for GoPro MISSION 1 PRO 50 MP RAW files in a future Camera Raw update?

    Hi,

Based on my testing, it appears that AI Denoise has difficulty processing native 50 MP GPR files. The issue is visible starting from ISO 100, although it becomes much more pronounced at higher ISO values.

For clarity, I am attaching an ISO 800 example because the differences are easier to see. The issue only becomes apparent after applying AI Denoise. Before AI Denoise, the files appear normal. After AI Denoise, the native 50 MP GPR file retains significantly more chroma noise and artifacts than the native 12 MP GPR file under the same conditions.

If it would help your investigation, please let me know the best email address to use, and I will send you a download link to the original sample GPR files so your engineering team can reproduce the issue exactly.

    Hi @pawełp46292328,

Thank you for reaching out with the detailed report. The GoPro MISSION 1 PRO is a very new camera; we'll pass this along to our engineering team for investigation. For investigation, kindly share the system info from the Lightroom Help > System Info by copying and pasting it here. A sample 50 MP GPR file (or a link to one) that consistently shows the artifacts? This would help our team investigate.

We appreciate you bringing this to our attention.

    Best regards,

During further testing, I discovered something even more interesting.

After converting the original GPR files to DNG, the AI Denoise results are significantly different.

The 12 MP files still retain visible chroma (color) noise, regardless of whether they are processed as GPR or DNG.

However, the 50 MP DNG files produce a much cleaner result, with the chroma artifacts virtually disappearing.

Based on my testing, the 50 MP files converted to DNG currently provide the best overall image quality in Lightroom and have become my preferred master files for post-processing.

I need to perform additional testing with new images to confirm my findings.

However, my current results suggest that the issue may not be related to the GPR format alone.

Applying AI Denoise to both the original 50 MP GPR and the exported 50 MP DNG still produces the same artifacts.

The only workflow that consistently produces clean results is exporting the original 50 MP GPR as a 12 MP lossy DNG and then applying AI Denoise.

At low ISO values, the differences are relatively small and the results are quite similar. The biggest differences appear at higher ISO settings, where the artifacts become much more noticeable.

I will continue testing with additional images and different ISO values to better understand the behavior.
