Question

AI Denoise background queue freezes/stalls when pasting settings on Lightroom Classic 15.3 macOS Sequoia 15.7.5

Then I apply AI denoise, in LR Classic 15.3 it does it in the background which I really like, however once I apply it to let’s say 100 pictures, and start editing the ones that already editable, it is stopping at the last few images. It is toally random where it is stopping but all the AI denoise remains in a stuck position and I can’t edit those photos unless I restart LR Classic.

Sometimes these are images that already have some AI denoise on them, I just don’t bother to select the ones that doesn’t have it, so I paste the settings to all. And usually it is stuck it one point of the process.

It only goes through the process if I don’t start editing any other photos, just wait for the whole process to finish.

Lightroom Classic version 15.3

Mac OS Sequoia 15.7.5

Maxed out M1 Max MacBook Pro with Apple Studio Display 5K.

    Hi @Herbiedriver1

Thanks for reporting this. To start with, please try the following:

    • You mentioned that you already deleted the ModelZoo files. I’m sharing the locations again to reconfirm that the folders were deleted from these locations:
      /Library/Application Support/Adobe/CameraRaw/ModelZoo/
      ~/Library/Application Support/Adobe/CameraRaw/ModelZoo/
    • Test Denoise in a new catalog with one of the affected RAW files to rule out catalog-specific corruption:
      • Create a new catalog
      • Import ~100–150 images
      • Apply AI Denoise and check the behavior
    • Make sure the RAW files are fully accessible locally (not stored on a sleeping external drive or disconnected volume).

A couple of things that would help us narrow this down:

    • Does it always crash when you start editing while Denoise is running, or only in certain cases?
    • Does it get stuck on images that already had Denoise applied earlier, as you mentioned?

    If the issue continues:

Let us know if these steps help or if you need further assistance. Looking forward to your response!

Thanks, Srishti Bali | Community & Engagement Strategist, Digital Imaging | Adobe

Thank you for this, re-verified that I removed all ModelZoo folders

Removed TempDisableGPU2 from the CameraRaw folder

Created a new catalog, imported 46 images

Selected all images, clicked Auto Sync, clicked Denoise

Top left said “Applying Denoise on 46 photos”

After the progress bar disappeared, I get Denoise Errors - Failed to apply adjustments to the following photos.  Then it lists all 46 images:

One more thing, so I tested it, even if I copy the settings, it is stopping.

Okey, so I actually found the trigger point of the AI denoise process stopping. So I can edit any other images, it still continues. But the moment I copy settings from an image and then paste the settings to another image, it immediately stops and stalls. If I use the “previous” button, it does not stall, but sometimes I dont’ edit images next to each other, also I frequently use the copy-paste settings because the “previous” button also copies the crop and everything that I don’t want. So the moment I hit paste settings, the AI Denoise in the background immediately stops and everything is stuck and I need to restart Lightroom Classic.

replying to myself, apparently I cannot use Denoise on ANY of my images in ANY catalog now.

Hi! I tried the suggestion from Srishti Bali also, and you should not remove anything from the main Library of your Mac. That causes the problem.

I fortunately just moved the content to test it so I was able to put everything back.

So there’s two “Library” folders in your Macintosh SSD. There’s the system’s Library, which is located directly on your internal drive. And there’s the user’s Library which is located in your Users/’your username’/Library.

So the only ‘Modelzoo’ folder you can delete is located inside the user’s Library, you shouldn’t delete anything from the system’s Library. That causes these errors.

If you deleted it premanently, I think you should uninstall Lightroom and install it back, that would probably regenerate those folders.

But just as a sidenote, there’s no effect of you deleting anything from the user’s library either. For me at least it didn’t solve any problem so it’s totally pointless.
The only workaround for Lightroom to not crash during denoising and copying settings is to use the synchronise function to do a series of denoising and then you can do copy settings while it works in the background.

Hi, @Herbiedriver1, have you tried going into History and backing up to before you selected Denoise (for all of the images)?

Went all the way back to Import, and I still can’t select the images that were ‘Autosync’d’ for the batch process. I get a Failed to apply adjustments to the following photos.  and then a list with “Requested Adjustment is not applicable (1)”

Tried the History on a file that did have the Denoise applied, clicked on the Import (to go all the way back to the beginning), and tried the Denoise filter, same problem.

LRc bombed halfway through applying Denoise, now I can’t select the remaining files to apply denoise. Tried clearing caches, deleting ModelZoo, etc. still won’t allow me to apply denoise to those remaining raw images.

And I can’t export any of the remaining raw files as .jpgs. The only options I have now are to Export to DNG or For Email (Hard Drive), and it defaults to Burn CD, which I don’t have (iMac).

    Hi @Gabor Lenart,

Thanks for reporting this. To start with, please try the following:

    • Reset AI models

    • Close Lightroom Classic

    • Go to:
      /Library/Application Support/Adobe/CameraRaw/ModelZoo/
      ~/Library/Application Support/Adobe/CameraRaw/ModelZoo/

    • Delete everything inside the ModelZoo folders and launch Lightroom & test.

    • Test in a new catalog

    • Create a new catalog

    • Import ~100-150 images

    • Apply AI Denoise and check

A couple of things to help us narrow this down:

    • Does it always stall when you start editing while Denoise is running, or only in certain cases?
    • Does it get stuck on images that already had Denoise applied earlier (as you mentioned)?

    If the issue continues:

    • Please share a screen recording of your workflow (apply > edit > where it gets stuck)
    • Copy & paste your System Info (Help > System Info)

Thanks for your patience. We’ll take it forward once we have these details.

    Best,

Hi, sorry for the late answer, I did all that you suggest and it still stuck. If I select however many images to denoise, and I start to edit any other photos, it is stopping after 3-4 photos and then it is totally frozen at that point and I can not edit any of those images that I applied the AI denoise on. But LR doesn’t do the denoising in the background. So I need to restart Lightroom to be able to apply any editing on those photos. The AI denoise doesn’t get applied to them.

I tried it with a brand new catalog and everything, it just doesn’t work :( I would need this on my work so much!

I have to be able to deliver images quickly on events so I can’t afford to wait for the denoise, however I would need to AI denoise for clean images. It is so frustrating.
