Apparent conflict with duplicates immediately following a major software update

Somehow a box that I've never clicked became enabled in my last import. This applied a filter that wasn't appropriate for the entire batch. So I went in and tried to re-import the files (suspected duplicates) by unchecking the box that says "ignore suspected duplicates." This finally seemed to work but I had double images. I then proceeded to remove the original ones that had the auto applied filter on the batch. All was going well but now I'm having serious (like making the program unusable for my work flow) issues with grey screens, previews not loading and general wonkiness in how the program is behaving. I haven't had issues like this in the past and since it comes right after the mandatory software update last week it's only gotten worse. All I get is a black framed program with lots of fancy buttons but zero content is being populated into the cells where the images normally are.. My wife is also experiencing issues with her version of the software in regards to latency and LAG.. Any one of you all have a solution for this or an idea of what might be hanging up my normally lightening fast PC (or in her case, an iMac)?

Thanks !

Spinning wheels with no changes to the images or behavior of the software. I tried to Build One and I tried Build All. Same response (circle --> Loading...)

Try deleting your preview cache. Lightroom will regenerate it automatically.

Go to the folder which contains your catalog file, and delete the subfolder whose name ends with Previews.Lrdata.  Do not delete anything else.

many people report this problem. But you didn't mention what the software update was. Please provide that information.

You could have also just reset the images in bulk back to their unedited state.

Please provide lots of details and screen captures to illustrate and explain what is going on. Emphasis on "lots of details".

    Lightroom version: CC 2015.12 [ 1125239 ]

    License: Creative Cloud

    Operating system: Windows 7

    Version: 6.1

    Application architecture: x64

    System architecture: x64

    Logical processor count: 8

    Processor speed: 3.9 GHz

    Built-in memory: 16322.4 MB

Thanks for that. I'll do that next time (hopefully there won't be one!)

I should note that these problems began when I updated the software and when I experienced the issue with re-importing the images back in without the applied filter settings. I can't remember which one came first but I suspect it was after I imported the images because I think I got frustrated and did the update to try and fix the "loading" issue and grey screens. Functionally, LR isn't working for any of my images, including the ones imported prior to all of this. It's literally unusable at the moment. Any ideas? see attached

What happens if your force Lightroom to generate previews?

    Library->Previews->Build 1:1 Previews
