Applying keywords (from the Keyword List panel) during Import

I'm sorry if this has already been discussed, I only found topics on Importing Keywords Lists...

When importing photos I do not have access to the Keyword List panel but just have a block to type in keywords. I don't have a very good memory so I have to back an forth between the import and library modules and make note of the keywords I want to use. If I make a typo then I end up with similar keywords that causes other problems. With all the features in LR I'm surprised I can't just pick keywords from the lists I have taken the time to develop, right in the import panel.

I seem to be missing something, if so, please point me in the right direction. If anybody has a method for dealing with this, please share.

Thanks

You're not missing anything -- LR isn't great at handling "controlled vocabularies" of keywords.  This also affects entering keywords into smart collections.  I'm not aware of any ways to alleviate this.
