Question

Auto conversion of keyword list order

As a new user of Lightroom Classic I was confident that my choice of software had been just what I needed.  I had discovered before purchasing that Lightroom would accept my CSV lists of Key Words via paste and was confident that as this was a major requirement all would be well.

However, I was not prepared for my lists to be numerically and aphabetically resorted and for there to be no way the user could switch off this feature.   This really matters to me and, I gather, to many other users.  How many users, current and potential,      find it acceptable to pay  a commercial company to trash their data? It seems to make no sense to offer so many options in a piece of software and not do the same for this.

Have your software designers declared it impossible? I can't believe this given the complexity of everything else they have achieved.

Or are you considering making this change and if so when?   If you are and the change will be made in the near term I might wait.   Otherwise it would have been great. Thank you and goodbye.

I really would appreciate your comments, and I'm sure that many current and future users will also be interested.

Are you referring to the order of the entire list of keywords in the Keyword List panel or in the order of keywords you've assigned to individual photos in the Keywording panel.

Re the Keyword List panel, I don't recall seeing any complaints or feature requests here about that.

Re the Keywording panel, many users have long requested that LR maintain the order of entered keywords.  It's particularly important for photos submitted to stock agencies, which use the keyword order for determining the relevance of the photo to their users' searches.  See this feature request:

In LR 11, Adobe implemented this in a very limited, crippled fashion just for Adobe Stock:

The feature is so poorly implemented that I suspect it was done under duress by the LR team to get the Adobe Stock team off their backs.

It is possible, however, to use a third-party utility to use that feature to order your keywords in the industry standard fields upon export:

Keyword order IN FILES doesn't fall under any particular standard. Its up to the graphics viewer to determine how to parse keywords and in what order. A viewer might alphabetize them, or not. An editor might rewrite them if edited, or not.

This is most likely why the Lightroom team has done what they have.

Oh and in the interest of completeness, Microsoft has a namespace/field for keywords as well.
