Auto Deselects After Upgrade

I encountered a very annoying bug after updating to the latest version of Lightroom classic yesterday.

When using AI-based selection tools (like Select Subject, Select Background, etc.), I noticed that the selection occasionally cancels itself immediately after making it — as if I never clicked anything. It happens unpredictably, but after using a few AI selections, the issue starts appearing again and again.

I've confirmed:

  • My keyboard is working perfectly fine (no stuck Escape keys or anything like that)

  • I'm using the latest Lightroom update

  • Restarting Lightroom temporarily resolves the issue — but only for a short while

  • It becomes a repeated pattern, especially when doing multiple AI-related edits

This bug significantly disrupts my workflow and makes AI editing feel unstable. I rely on these tools daily and hope this can be addressed in a hotfix soon.

I have never encountered this, and quite frankly I think that if this was really a bug, this forum would contain a massive thread about it already. So I suggest checking your keyboard again, and especially your mouse. It could also be a problem with corrupted preferences. Corrupted preferences are known to cause all kinds of strange issues. So try resetting them to see if that solves your problem:

P.S. You are not running MacOS 26 beta, are you?...

There have been scattered reports of similar behavior the last couple of years. If resetting preferences as Johan suggested doesn't help, it could be an out-of-date (buggy) graphics driver, a common cause of intermittent flakiness with LR's AI commands. Try updating your graphics driver by going directly to the manufacturer's web site, rather than relying on Windows Update or a manufacturer's update utility:

If that doesn't help, please copy/paste here the entire contents of the LR menu command Help > System Info -- that will let us see exactly which versions of hardware and software LR thinks you're running.

@johnrellis The OP is using MacOS. GPU drivers in MacOS are from Apple and cannot be updated from the GPU manufacturer website.
