Question

Auto-import renaming+duplicating files

Whenever I enable auto-import from a specific folder, Lightroom would do it but would change the filenames of each image in the folder by adding a -2 to the end. No idea why.

Since I've started using a new laptop, not only does this happen and every image is renamed on import, but Lightroom now constantly duplicates each new file every couple of seconds. I could end up with a folder with infinite images if I let it carry on. Each duplicate adds another -2 to the end.

Any help would be hugely appreciated!

Auto Import looks at a 'watch folder', imports every photo from that folder and moves it to a destination folder. It sounds like your Auto Import setting uses the watch folder as the destination folder, meaning the image is not moved from one folder to another folder, but duplicated inside the same folder. Because your OS does not allow two images with the same name in the same folder, the new copy gets renamed by adding '-2' to the file name. And because Lightroom sees a new image appear in the watch folder, this process repeats itself every few seconds...

That was my thinking, Johan. But when I tested it, I did indeed get the initial duplicated inage with the "-2" addition, but I didn't get the process repeating itself. Still, would be good to verify the actual auto-import settings.

Please post a screenshot of your Auto Import settings.
