Auto Import Resets Filter View in Lightroom Classic

I'm running into an issue using Auto Import with Lightroom Classic.

I have a Watch Folder set to Auto-Import photos into my Lightroom Catalog. The intended use is for an assistant to review images with clients while I shoot, with the photos loading into Lightroom in the background, uninterrupted.

I use CamRanger 2 to transfer photos from the camera to the Watch Folder on my Mac. This happens flawlessly.

HD>Watch Folder

Lightroom imports (moves) photos from HD>Watch Folder to HD>Lightroom Photos.

The images do load in the background in Lightroom, but a glitch occurs when Lightroom moves them from the Watch Folder to the Lightroom Folder and builds previews.

My folder setup is:

HD>Lightroom Photos

HD>Lightroom Photos>Subject 1

HD>Lightroom Photos>Subject 2

Etc.

My assistant selects a set of images from the Lightroom Photos folder, creates a new Subject folder (and moves the selected images into the folder). Then, while reviewing in Survey Mode, the assistant marks some images with stars. While reviewing, they will further filter the viewed images by star rating to assist in image selection.

The glitch happens while filtering. After selecting a set of images (let's say 3 out of 7 "2-star images"), Auto Import loads images in the background into the parent folder, but the filtered Survey View of the child folder is reset. The 3-out-of-7 images remain selected, but the filter is turned off, revealing all of the images in the Subject folder in the toolbar.

Is this a glitch/bug, or something I'm missing in settings?

Software/Hardware:

  • Lightroom Classic 15.0.1
  • MacOs Sequoia 15.7.2
  • MacBook Pro M1 Max 32GB

Settings:

  • Folder set to Auto Import in Lightroom Classic (HD > Auto-Import)
  • Auto Import settings (Watched Folder: Auto-Import, Destination: HD>Lightroom Photos, File Naming: Filename, Develop Settings:[Custom], Metadata:[Custom], Initial Previews: Standard, Other Options: Disable Auto Advance)
  • Lightroom Preferences: General>Select the "Current/Previous Import" collection during import [Disabled], General>Show parent folder during import [Disabled]

This is as designed. Filters are reset to avoid confusion if an incoming photo is filtered out, so it appears the photo is not imported at all. If you do not want the filter to reset, then go to Grid view so you can see the filter at the top of the grid and then click to close the little padlock at the top right. Then you can go back to the view you want.

Thank you!

I wondered if that might be the case, but I didn't know about the Filter Lock.

Brilliant.
