Question

Auto import Synology Photos without moving files?

Hi, I have Synology Photo app setup in my iPhone to auto backup my photos from iPhone to NAS.

The photos are stored in <NAS>/homes/<user name>/Photos/MobileBackup/<phone name>/<year>/<month>

I mount it in MacOS and want to import them to Lightroom Classic so that I have a single place to manage both photos from cameras and phones.

I try to manually import it several times, it took very long time for Lightroom Classic to scan the folder structure (I choose the MobileBackup level) to find out what are the photos over and over again as it includes 30k+ photos.

I want to set up an auto import, I check this doc:  https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom-classic/help/import-photos-automatically.html#:~:text=Enable%20automatically%20importing%20photos,Auto%20Import%20%3E%20Enable%20Auto%20Import.

Seems the built-in auto import setting needs to move files to a destination folder, it won't keep them in the original folder stucture, which is important to me as I want to keep the structure to let Synology Photo app to work as well

Is there any way to do it?

Thanks

No.

Auto import requires a watched folder to mitigate the amount of resources Lightroom would need to monitor an entire folder structure.

Just right-click the parent folder from time to time and choose Synchronise Folder. Let Import run-you can even leave the Import dialog off.
