Background mask consumes sky mask and destroys my adjustments. Solution?

I love the masks, except for one thing, and that one thing is horrible. I usually start with Sky, then move to Subject and on to any other masks I need, and finish with Background. But background always absorbs my Sky masks and destroys the adjustments I made. It does not do this to Subject or Brush or People. I seldom use Object.

I then go back to Sky and adjust it anew but the background filter seems to always have removed some of the original information and I can never get it to look as good as it did on the first, pre-Background adjustment.

Is there some way I can stop the Background mask from absorbing the Sky mask?

Lightroom V 12.5

After you created the background mask, subtract a sky mask from it to exclude the sky from this mask.
