Question

BACKUP MY PRESETS AND SETTINGS AUTOMATICALLY

I've built a new system and had to reinstall CC suite. As I recreate all my export presets, and pull my hair out trying to find the last batch of Develop presets I exported, I started to ask myself why the hell Adobe "CC" doesn't do this for me automatically. You know that I'm signed in. You know that this would take all of a few KB of Cloud storage. You know that users would find this extremely useful. Why hasn't it been done?

Why am I left holding the bag when I should be back to work, seamlessly, instead of dicking around with these stupid tasks?

This needs to be implemented yesterday.

I agree with that. Lightroom Classic should have a 'Move to another computer' option, but that is not the same as a backup option.

Agreed, a backup option is also needed. It isn't obvious where LrC stores all of it's user-specific settings and assets that need to be backed up and restored. For example the confusion below concerning the location of LrC Develop presets, which are now shared with Camera Raw.

C:\Users\[user name]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\CameraRaw\Settings

I think the request is for an easier way to move all user specific content from LrC on an older system to a new system. What that currently requires is outlined in the Lightroom Queen ebook 'Moving to a New Computer' at the link I provided. It's 21 pages long, which should be a clue that it's not for the faint of heart.

I have a slightly different take on this subject. I do use the catalog backup feature, but only because that also verifies and optimizes the catalog. I do not think that each application should have its own backup system, however. Most of your other apps do not have such a feature either, and for a good reason: You should make regular backups of your entire drive, using a specialised backup app such as Apple Time Machine.

Very good claim. I fully support you. We are bored to do the house work Adobe should do automatically.

I totally agree with you, but until Adobe comes up with a better solution you can use the below instructions.

This is a user-to-user forum. We are not Adobe. For feature requests, go to https://feedback.photoshop.com. Search for your feature request first. If it is already requested by someone else, then don't create a new thread but add your vote to the existing request.
