Bad performance in Lightroom Classic?

So I've checked several threads and I couldn't find any fix for my issue, it's really bugging me because I just can't use Lightroom (Cloud), I hate it. 

Basically, the program runs like ass, the menus are slow, going from Library to Develop takes a whole 10 seconds (which may not seem like a lot but it's a very noticeable delay), every time I switch photos it takes like 3 seconds, and every time I flag a photo (rejected for example), it takes like 4 seconds.

I already tried *everything*, I configured the program for full GPU usage, I run the program with high process priority, I purged the camera raw cache and gave it a bigger size (even though I don't use Camera Raw or photoshop), I optimized the catalog, and I even reinstalled the program.

Nothing gets rid of these performance issues, and the icing on the cake is that my Laptop (An Asus VivoBook) does *not* have these issues.

These are my Specs:

Ryzen 9 3900X
RTX 4070 Ti Super 16GB
32GB of DDR4 RAM
1TB NVMe for the OS (and where Lightroom Classic installed)


Please, someone help me because this is driving me insane and I'm just thinking of quitting the Adobe Suite altogether.

Do you have just one antivirus running? Check it's setting to exclude the LrC and image folders from the antivirus scan.

I do have just one antivirus running (AVAST), I did already set it to exclude, unfortunately it didn't help.

the icing on the cake is that my Laptop (An Asus VivoBook) does *not* have these issues.

 

That brings up a inquiry about the health of that misbehaving computer (perhaps).

 

  • Are the various motherboard drivers up to date (chipset driver comes to mind). Those would come from the computers mfg or the motherboards mfg.
  • Is the MS app up to date, anything from MS to update?
  • Does the RAM test Ok
  • Does the hard drive rest Ok
  • Is the CPU overheating? Look for dust blocking inlets, and yes LrC being a resource hog suffers with heat.
  • Does this computer have an adequate PSU (LrC a resource hog)

    I thought the same thing the moment I noticed it was running fine on my laptop, I even went as far as formatting the entire PC.

    The computer works fine, I use it for gaming and work, it doesn't over heat, it never crashes, nothing.
    I do keep everything up to date, Adobe Support even had a remote session with me and we went over this, they said they would be contacting me further later on this week. 

    Seems to be a very weird issue.

     I purged the camera raw cache and gave it a bigger size (even though I don't use Camera Raw or photoshop)

     

    But LrC does use Camera RAW, the same CACHE as would be used by PS. Mind you the Adobe Camera RAW that would be a plug-in for PS is actually part if the LrC code. LrC is actually a GUI around Adobe Camera RAW maintaining a database (the catalog)

     

    So increasing the Camera RAW CACHE might improve develop module performance (nit library module, etc)

     

    HOWEVER, your performance issues outside of the develop module have nothing to do with the Camera RAW CACHE.

     

    This leads to a inquiry, anyhow, can you share a screenshot of your LrC /preferences/performance/

    My performance issues are mostly noticeable when using hotkeys to perform several actions (for example, the most common one, is flagging photos with X for reject, 1-5 for stars, etc)

    I do not see anything in the system info that indicates a cause.

    P.S. glad to see you avoid the OneDrive issue. It would have been a suspect to watch for in the system info.

     

    However, perhaps

     

    So a 1 TB NVMe for drive C, and the catalog currently on that drive. How much free space in percent? Looking for 25% free (some say 20%)

    To mention a few extra things I forgot to add:

    I also tried putting the Catalog *everywhere* but the OS NVMe, including an empty secondary NVMe, a Hard Drive, and a SATA SSD.

    I tried 1:1 previews

     

    I tried Purging the catalog cache

    I made sure that the catalog (or the Adobe Lightroom folder in Pictures) is not in OneDrive or synchronizing to it.
