Blank "Rename Folder" causes hang on quit.

This happens frequently when I rename a folder.

Folder renames correctly but behind all the windows is a blank persistant "Rename Folder" window that can't be moved or closed.  Lightroom hangs when i try to quit, likely due to this window.

Hi @GWSHARK101! 👋

Please follow John's suggestion and let us know if it helps. Does this happen with every folder, or just specific ones like those containing videos? Do you see similar behavior when you move folders?

In the meantime, a workaround is to rename the folder outside of Lightroom Classic. This will make the folder 'missing' (with a question mark and its name in italics). To reconnect it, right-click on the folder in the Lightroom folder panel and choose 'Find Missing Folder'. In the dialog that appears, navigate to the folder's new location/name on disk and select it.

Hope this helps!
Thanks so much! Alek

It happens to multiple folders.  It's random and doesn't happen every day.  Most of the time I'm not even renaming the folder, I'm just using the rename folder option in order to copy the folder name so I can paste it elsewhere to rename a separate folder on my finder.   It's part of my workflow and I've been using it for, oh about 12 years.  This issue just started about 2 months ago.

First, restart your computer. If the problem persists, try resetting LR's preferences:

LR sometimes soils its preferences file, and resetting it can fix all sorts of wonky behavior. That article explains how to restore the old preferences if resetting doesn't help.

Thank you.  I just reset them.  I hate resetting my lightroom preferences as it always causes me some pain.  Settings I've come to rely on get reset  and I don't notice it until something stops working in photoshop, like my save actions.  I then have to track down what changed in lightroom that broke my photoshop actions when I reset preferences.

A quick and easy way to avoid having the rebuild your preferences after resetting is to make a copy of the new file and keeping it safe for reuse. When necessary you can use this copy to replace the old or corrupt file.

You can find the location , etc fort he  Lightroom Classic preference file below linked Adobe Help document.
