Book module "collecting information" ?

Issue Description:

Lightroom Classic has become extremely slow when switching into the Book Module. Whenever I switch from Library or Develop back into Book, Lightroom displays “Collecting Information…” in the upper-left corner and then hangs for a long time before the Book Module becomes usable. This behavior makes the Book Module almost unusable for book projects and did not occur before recent versions.

What I Have Already Tried:

  • Updated Lightroom Classic to 15.0.1

  • Quit + restarted Lightroom and macOS

  • Optimized catalog

  • Paused cloud sync

  • Verified there are no active sync operations

  • Issue persists regardless of whether the Book module was edited recently

Other Details:

  • Catalog size: 1.24 GB

  • Total photos: 99,136

  • Sync status: Sync is paused

  • Storage locations:

    • ~75,000 photos stored on an external hard drive

    • ~24,000 photos stored on the internal MacBook SSD

  • Catalog and previews are stored on the MacBook internal drive

  • Product: Lightroom Classic v15.0.1

  • Operating System: macOS Sequoia 15.6.1

  • Hardware: MacBook Pro with Apple M1 Pro chip, 16GB RAM

Correct answer Rob_Cullen

Certainly do NOT select the [All Photographs] list in the Catalog Panel- This will invoke the “Collecting Information…” message for sure!

Create a Standard Collection of selected photos and start the book with only this collection.

Hi @figurinitout! Thank you for reaching out and sharing the necessary details! I'm sorry to hear about your issue. I'll be happy to help you with this.

You can try out these fixes, see if they work for you:

  1. Try resetting the preferences: Please try out the manual method listed in this HelpX article: How to reset Lightroom Classic preferences

2. Build 1:1 Previews: Select all the photos currently used in your book project.

-Go to Library > Previews > Build 1:1 Previews. Wait for this process to complete.

-Check the Book Module performance again.

3. Go to Lightroom Classic > Catalog Settings.

-In the General tab, look at the Location field.

-Click the Show button then quit Lightroom Classic completely.

- In Finder, locate Lightroom Catalog Previews.lrdata and rename it to Previews.lrdata.old.

-Relaunch Lightroom Classic by double-clicking your main .lrcat file.

-Lightroom will automatically create a new, fresh, empty [Catalog Name] Previews.lrdata file/folder.

Hope this helps!

Noel
