Borderless Printing missing on Mac OS 15.2

Hi All,

I am seeing the option for Borderless printing missing on my mac LR Classic installation.  I'm using Mac OS Sequoia 15.2.

I have seen some posts from older versions on here but most say it was fixed.  Mine isnt though.  I have tried a work around of doing a custom paper size in the page set up or print module with margins set to 0 but it still prints with a border.

My printer is an Epson ET-8550 - Ive updated everything I can on it but its made no difference.

Any help would be hugely appreciated as I am really struggling!  Is this a mac problem, an Adobe problem or an Epson problem?

In hope!  Mike

When you ask “Is this a mac problem, an Adobe problem or an Epson problem?” it works in this order:

Paper sizes in Page Setup are always supplied by the printer driver software; in this case the driver for the ET-8550. When a different printer is selected in the Format For menu, the available paper sizes change because the printer driver tells macOS which sizes that printer can do. I’ll never see 17 x 22 inches when I select my Canon all-in-one because it can’t print larger than US Legal 8.5 x 14 inches, but if I choose my Epson 3880 then its printer driver tells macOS that 17 x 22 inches is an option. Up to this point, Lightroom Classic isn’t even involved yet.

In Lightroom Classic, when you click the Page Setup button in Lightroom Classic (or choose File > Page Setup), as in other software, that asks macOS to show the macOS Page Setup dialog box, and Page Setup shows whatever sizes should be available based on the printer selected in the Format For menu.

It’s important to make sure the Format For menu does not say “Any Printer,” because that will show only generic options, and won’t account for paper sizes and margins of a specific printer.

When you click OK, Lightroom Classic receives the printer specs from Page Setup and applies them to the print job.

In short, the correct paper sizes, printable areas, and features such as borderless should show up if you can say “yes” to both of the following:

  • Printer driver software is installed that’s compatible with the Epson ET-8550 and the current version of macOS. One thing to avoid here is the accidental installation of the Apple AirPrint version of the printer driver, because it might not show some advanced or printer-specific options such as borderless; for more details read this Macworld article: https://www.macworld.com/article/224167/the-trick-to-finding-the-right-printer-driver-for-your-mac.html
  • In Page Setup, the Format For menu is set to Epson ET-8550, not Any Printer.

Also, do you see the borderless option missing in all Mac apps, or just Lightroom Classic?

  • If things are set correctly above and borderless is available in all apps except Lightroom Classic, then it’s a problem with Lightroom Classic.
  • If things are set correctly above and borderless is not available in any Mac apps, then it’s a macOS or Epson printer driver problem.

The picture below is of a Mac I have running Lightroom Classic 14.1.1 in macOS 15.2, and when I select my Epson inkjet printer, the current Epson printer driver provides all expected paper sizes including the borderless options. This is just to show that it’s possible, but there is a chance other printer models might have problems I don’t know about.
