Camera Profile

I have created a camera profile using a jpeg (converted to dng file format) but when I look for profile in Lightroom it does not come up ( I have restarted LR and imported the camera profile).

Is it possible to create a general camera profile (not specific to particular camera)?

Thanks

Mike

To add to what other's have correctly stated, just because you end up with a DNG in no way means it's containing raw data. You've done just that by converting a JPEG to DNG. It's not raw. It's a JPEG. So as other's have stated, to produce an actual DCP camera profile, you need a DNG that's converted FROM raw data. Once built, that DCP profile will only work with raws; a raw converted to DNG or a proprietary raw.

A camera profile created from a jpeg converted to a dng will still only work for already rasterized files and won't work for raw files. You need an actual raw file (or dng created from the raw) to generate a camera profile. You can generate one of the new creative profiles when using camera raw to generate a profile and that profile will work for any file from any camera as it is just a glorified preset that doesn't affect any slider values but does the slider values behind the scenes. why would you expect that profile could be used to work with a RAW file. First off the jpeg file would alread had a Default develop profile applied duing the creation of the jpeg file either by the camera firmware software or by a raw conversion software application. So what are we trying to compare.

You will need to use that DNG photo to create a Develop Preset. Not a Profile.

No it is not. That is why it is called a "Camera" Profile.

Whatever camera took that JPG image you converted to DNG and made the profile with will only show up when you have images from that make and model camera.
