Question

Can a Win10 folder be a Collection, too, as I add images day by day through Export in LR Classic?

Hoping for auto inclusion of a named LRc folder into a Collection.

I need to Export images to a particular folder to add a manage my workflow, watermark, and control pixel dimensions.
I want those images to sync to my Android phone through LR Mobile (to become Instagram content). This is to skip other transfer options like USB cable, Google Drive, OneDrive, e-mail attachment, or my own Synology NAS.

A "watched folder" isn't used because I check the box "Add to this catalog" when exporting.

I hope there's an automatic process. Otherwise I have to open that folder and manually drag the images to a Collection. Alternatively,  make the transfer-enabled  Collection "Target" and force inclusion by clicking all new images, then click "Add to Target Collection". There's lots of extra steps and see-saw scrolling re-assigning Target Collection fussy selecting from a grid...

Hoping for auto/connected inclusion of a named Folder into a Collection.

Anyone seen this done? Doing it yourself?

When you import ... click on the box that says "Add to Collection"

Instead of using 'Add to this Catalog', you could only export the images to a folder. Then use 'Synchronize Folder' to import them, and make sure you checked the option to show the import dialog. In the import dialog you can check the option to add the images to a collection.

In Lightroom Classic, Folders and Collections are two different things.

Folders that are displayed in the left panel in the Library Module are folders from your computer hard disk system that contain the actual image files.

Collections are just data in the LrC Catalog file and what is displayed there is because LrC knows where the original files are stored and exactly what edits etc you have applied to the original image. Images can be placed in multiple collections. If you delete an original file from the folder it will be removed from all collections. See the screen capture below, notice how the icons show the Folders and the Collections, the collections look like a box, it's just data.

During the import process, you can Copy, Move, or Add images to your computer and at the same time you can also add to a specific collection. See the screen capture.

It is very important that you know how Lightroom functions and an understanding the Catalog file. The link below will provide assist.

Mr. deGannes, I really should have indicated I am very experienced with Lightroom and digital asset management processes. I am a recently retired professional photographer, too, with 225,000 image files in my catalog. I just hoped there was a (perhaps outside) plug-in that ran routines to make easier what I want to do. I did look at Jeffery Friedl's site again and will check some of the othere usual sources of plug-in tools.

I really appreciate the effort you put into that background material. You've been helping people here for years. Again, thank you for your consistent service on the forum.

Maybe I'm missing something, but if you uncheck Add to this catalog in the Export dialog, can't you achieve what you want by exporting to a watched folder?
