Question

Can I delete the file "Lightroom Catalog-2-v10-v11 Previews.lrdata" - (using Lrc V11.2)

I have read on this forum that it is possible to delete ....preview.lrdata  file and it will simply be recreated in ear;ier posts (latest was from June 2019) - is it still necessary to do this ....my hard drive is filling up ? - Regards, Craig.

As the others already wrote you can delete it, but it will be slower.

Here what I do:

In Catalog settings you can pick a size for the preview pictures, I have set this to 1440 and mid quality.

Then I deleted the preview file and restarted the creation of the standard previews manually.

Now I have small previews for all my pictures.

For the active pictures I creatre 1:1 previews, these will be automatically deleted after a week.

I don't waste space for large previews, but I still can go in the overview an see all pictures without a large delay.

You can indeed simply delete this file (actually a special folder) and Lightroom will recreate it. Just keep in mind that the response will be slower for a time as Lightroom builds new previews on demand, as you browse through your library.
