Can Lightroom Catalogs save to an external harddrive?

Question

Hi- I need help. I just brought my computer to Apple to get fixed and somehow only Lightroom Classic is empty. Everything else is there (desktop folders) but my Lightroom Classic catalogs are all empty. I backed up my hard drive before I brought it to Apple but when I tried to find my pictures they don't appear to be there. Would my pictures from Lightroom save to my external hard drive when I hacked up everything?

Also, I thought my pictures were syncing when I downloaded them to Lightroom Classic but the sync folder has about 10 photos and not 2,000.

I thought I was doing the right things but now I can't find my pictures anywhere. Any ideas on how to find them, or are they gone?

Your pictures could be on an external drive. Have you looked there?
