Can't Added Photo to Saved Slideshow

Question

How do I add a new slide to a saved slideshow? I can add the slide and see it in the filmstrip, but it is grayed out, and does not appear when playing the slideshow.

I can add it to the original collection from which I created a slideshow, but then I have to rebuild the slideshow over again. The original collection won't include it in a slideshow either, and when I resave the collection to a new slideshow, the photos are out of order, meaning I have to replicate my work over and over…

To be clear, I am not talking about an exported slideshow, just a saved slideshow.

This info in this thread doesn’t seem to match my experience.

HEADDESK - looks like "just flagged photos” was selected. Wish I could have those hours of my life back!

Essentially I have to start completely over each time I want to make an addition, building a new collection from scratch, then a new slideshow out of the new collection.. Duplicating the collection from which I built the original slideshow yields the same problem: newly added photos are grayed out when I go to "Slideshow” option window.
I can REMOVE slides, but I can not ADD new ones.
