Can't enter name to tag face

In Library mode, People view, I can select the checkmark if LR has guessed correctly, yet when trying to type in a name under the face, nothing happens.

I can drag an image to already-named people. 

The named field opens but the keyboard doesn't enter anything.

User error I'm sure. What setting am I failing to consider, or check, or what?
