Can't get Lightroom Classic CC Desktop to start?

Hi there,

Using PC with latest Windows 10 - everything working fine until today. Now when I attempt to start the LR Desktop app, nothing happens. I've restarted PC/Reinstalled Creative Cloud/Deleted and reinstalled LR - nothing changes? Tried starting LR from windows start menu/desktop shortcut and also via Creative Cloud App - still nothing? Lightroom Cloud version opens and works OK, and so does Photoshop - I just have a problem with desktop version of LR. I use this because that's the one I'm used to - its where my Lightroom catalogue is and all the presets I use...

I don't get any error messages - just a spinning wheel for 2-3 seconds then nothing?

Completely lost & frustrated and desperately need to get some stuff done but cant do anything?

Help!

Mark

I had the exact same problem, Windows 10, Lightroom Classic CC and after starting the program, nothing happened. I tried everything I could find on forums, but nothing worked.

As a last attempt i tried to move my lightroom catalog file so Lr wouldn't find it. When I started Lr after that I used the option "Use standard catalog". After that it started without a problem. I later replaced the catalog with my latest backup, and that worked also.

I hope this helps!

I didn't see you describe a crash.  But mine starting crashing on startup today.  I read all the internet and did what I could find to no avail.  (Reset preferences, uninstall/reinstall, uninstall/revert to previous ver, delete preference files, uninstall without saving preferences, you name it.)

It turns out my problem is with the nVidia surround display configuration.  I have 3 monitors and have been using nVidia's surround display for years.  All-of-a-sudden, Lightroom doesn't seem to like it anymore.  I suspect it's with the nVidia driver update.  If I disable surround displays, Lightroom starts fine.

My problem is that I much prefer surround displays.  I suspect that what needs to happen, long term, is that Adobe needs to update to the latest nVidia drivers.  Or nVidia needs to repair what they broke.  Personally, I don't care.  I'd just like the two of them to play well together again.

Hope this helps,

Tom

I am having the same issue on Mac High Sierra. I'm using version Adobe Lightroom Classic [1167660].

I've deleted preferences stuff, application support stuff, uninstalled/reinstalled, signed out/in of Cloud, shutdown/restarted.

All to no avail.

Is there somewhere I can look for error messages? Error logs or something?

What I'm seeing on starting the application is the splashscreen displaying for 1-2 seconds (like it normally does during start) then splashscreen hides but the application doesn't load. No error messaging displays.

What I expect to see is the application continue to load and display the default catalog - this is the usual behaviour I get.

If there is a log, it should be present in the Console application (in your Utilities folders inside the Applications folder).

Thanks. Checked console logs. I do see this fire in the systems log when trying to run LH:

adobe_lichelper[6474]: Write failed: Write permissions error.

From the log, I can't tell what is trying to be written.

I also note this post: https://forums.adobe.com/thread/2485807
