Trying to import photos to Lightroom on external hard disk but message says: 'The destination folder “/Volumes/PHOTOS_EXT” is not available. Using “Pictures” folder instead. ' All my photos are on this disk and I have never had problems before. It's 4TB and half full.

Mac 10.15.7 and Lightroom 5.5

Apple changed the security requirements in MacOS, and I believe that was starting with Catalina. Go to MacOS 'System Settings - Security & Privacy' and add Lightroom Classic and Photoshop to "Full Disk Access". Click on the lock icon to unlock the settings, then click on the plus icon to add Lightroom Classic and/or Photoshop if it isn't already listed. If it is listed, then just enable the checkbox.
